Biography

In 2011, Iva Němcová graduated from the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, where she studied scenography under the guidance of Prof. Jan Dušek. Within her studies, she spent a year in London, attending theatre design and performance courses at the prestigious Central Saint Martins - University of the Arts London. She has created sets and costumes for a number of productions in the Czech Republic and abroad, and collaborated with the stage directors Daniel Špinar (Shakespeare’s Hamlet and Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler at the Švanda Theatre in Prague; Havel’s The Beggar’s Opera at the Klicpera Theatre in Hradec Králové; Maupassant’s Bel Ami atthe Municipal Theatre in Kladno; Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew within the Summer Shakespeare Festival in Prague, etc.), Jan Frič (Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard, the comedy Tartuffe Games at the Na Zábradlí Theatre in Prague; The Cripple of Inishmaan at the Klicpera Theatre in Hradec Králové, etc.), Miroslav Krobot (Dostoyevsky’s The Idiot  at the Astorka in Bratislava), and Lucie Málková (Au Bonheur des Dames at the Pesti Színház in Budapest; Urinetown at the F. X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec). She is also interested in photography, contemporary art and design, and has created visual styles for non-commercial spots and projects (the Hospice foundation, the Jedlička Institute, DesignHelp), as well as for video clips of the band The Tap Tap. She has also designed the visual style for a number of conceptually conceived Czech fashion photographs, and sets and costumes for the feature-length movies Gottland (directed by Radovan Síbrt) and Family Film (directed by Olmo Omerzu).
