Katarzyna Kuncio
Biography
The Polish mezzo-soprano Katarzyna Kuncio studied voice at the Music Academy in Poznan and the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna (under Walter Berry), from which she graduated cum laude. She attended master classes led by Brigitte Fassbaender, Gundula Janowitz, Theo Adam and Ernst Haefliger. In 1997 she won 1st prize in the Schubert Voice Competition in Osaka, Japan. While still a student, she performed in several productions at the Wiener Kammeroper and Wiener Volksoper. From 1998 to 2004 she was engaged at Staadttheater Bremerhaven. Since the 2004/05 season she has been a member of Deutsche Oper am Rhein, where she has successfully portrayed, among other roles, Octavian (Strauss: Der Rosenkavalier), Olga (Tchaikovsky: Eugene Onegin), Hänsel (Humperdinck: Hänsel and Gretel), Cherubino (Mozart: Le nozze di Figaro) and Annio (Mozart: La clemenza di Tito).
