Ladislav Mlejnek

Biography

Although his official studies at the J. E. Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem were directed toward a career as a teacher, Ladislav Mlejnek devoted himself privately to vocal training with Jitka Švábová. He debuted in the Nothern Bohemia Theatre Ústí nad Labem as Colinne in Puccini’s La bohème, and sang Smetana’s Matouš (The Kiss), Kecal (The Bartered Bride), and Mumlal (Two Widows) in the classic Czech repertoire, Sparafucile (Verdi: Rigoletto) and Don Basilio (Rossini: Il barbiere di Siviglia) in the Italian repertoire as well as Valesmanni in the Czechoslovak premiere (1990) of the opera Pohjalaisia by the Finnish composer Leevi Madetoja. On the international scene he debuted during his studies, in a concert in Den Haag, Holland. Later he performed on Danish and Belgian stages, in Vienna, in Macerata, Italy, in Bad Hersfeld, Helsinki, and Japan. Until 2011 he was a soloist of the Prague State Opera, where he created many role including Verdi‘s Ferrando (Il trovatore) and Ramphis (Aida), Mustafa (Rossini: L’Italiana in Algeri), Dulcamara (Donizetti: L’elisir d‘amore), Zuniga (Bizet: Carmen), Timur (Puccini: Turandot) and others. Since January 2012 he was a soloist of the National Theatre Opera in Prague. He has been cooperating intensively with the National Theatre Brno, and guest appears at the Nothern Bohemia Theatre Ústí nad Labem.
