Protection of personal data
Information provided in accordance with Articles 12 and 13 of the General Data Protection Regulation, (EU) 2016/679, on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data (hereinafter referred to as the “Regulation”).
1. The administrator of your personal data
The administrator of your personal data is the National Theatre, an organisation partly financed from the public purse, based at the address Ostrovní 1, 110 00 Praha 1 – Nové Město (hereinafter referred to as the “National Theatre” or the “NT”).
2. Processing of personal data
2.1 Purposes of processing of personal data
We process the personal data of our employees, visitors, partners and other entities (hereinafter also referred to as “You”) with the aim to carry out our activities as an organisation partly financed from the public purse in the public interest. The mission of the National Theatre is to give performances of stage productions and concerts, hold exhibitions, and pursue educational and training activities.
2.2 The legal bases for processing of personal data
Personal data are processed pursuant to the following legal bases:
2.2.1 Consent to processing of personal data
We need consent to processing of personal data every time we would like to start sending You information pertaining to our activities, or to provide You with commercial, sales and other similar services.
2.2.1.1 Cookies
A cookie is a small piece of data the visited website sends to the web browser. It allows the respective website to record information concerning your visit, e.g. the preferred language and other settings. As a result, the next visit to the website may be easier and more productive. Cookies are important, for browsing the web would be much more complicated without them. They serve a number of purposes. We use them for saving your safe search settings, for selecting relevant offers, for monitoring the number of the website visitors, for simplifying the registration of new services, for protecting your data, etc.
2.2.2 Conclusion and performance of contracts
We will process your personal data whenever we will enter into a contractual relation with You. We will need your personal data for the purpose of concluding donation agreement, contracts of purchase, contracts for work or employment contracts.
2.2.3 Execution of the administrator’s legal duty
We are obliged to process certain personal data in order to execute our legal duty determined by the valid legislation.
2.2.4 Serving the mission pursued in the public interest
The National Theatre is an institution in the public interest, which is stipulated in the Charter of the National Theatre. It serves tasks pertaining to staging in public of drama, music-dramatic and ballet works in the form of organising and co-organising of theatre performances and other cultural productions. Moreover, its activities include holding artistic competitions, specialist conferences, exhibitions, seminars, workshops and symposiums in the Czech Republic and abroad.
2.2.5 Processing of data for the purposes of pursuing legitimate interests of the National Theatre or third parties
The National Theatre playhouses and operational buildings are monitored by CCTV camera systems for preventative reasons, as well as with the aim to pursue our legitimate interest in securing a safe environment. We make sure that the video surveillance systems do not impinge upon the privacy of our visitors and employees.
We are also legitimately interested in conducting direct communication with our clients and partners we have a great regard for. Without such direct communication, we would not be able to carry out our mission, nor to perform our duties in the public interest.
2.2.5.1 Photographs and video recordings made at National Theatre events
We document the events we organise for the public by means of taking photographs and/or making video recordings. Subsequently, selected photographs are published in the National Theatre monthly, on our website, on our social media profiles or as part of photo galleries available on the internet. Select few photographs are made available to the official media.
Such taking of photographs and such making of video recordings concern regular documentation of theatre performances and/or other events, which can be carried out (including on the basis of this information) without your prior express consent. We make sure that our visitors, whom we highly regard and respect, are not featured in unpleasant or undignified situations, which particularly applies to children. Should You ascertain that we have published a photograph or a video recording depicting You in a manner You deem unacceptable, please inform us of such an occurrence, and we will take measures in order to satisfy your request.
2.3 Other terms and conditions pertaining to personal data protection
Whether the provision of your personal data is a legal or contractual requirement and whether You are obliged to provide us with your personal data depends on the respective situation. We will always inform You of the existence of such an obligation in dependence on specific situations and of the consequences that may arise in connection with such an obligation.
Processing of your personal data does not give rise to automatic decision-making, including profiling, from which consequences for You may result. The statistics of our website’s visit rate, which we draw up in order to have feedback concerning the provision of our services, are processed on the basis of anonymised and aggregate data.
2.4 The personal data processed and their sources
The absolute majority of the personal data we process are directly provided by You. A small proportion of contacts is acquired from public sources, while certain data emerge from the operation of our equipment or website or information.
2.5 Recipients and categories of recipients of personal data
The recipients of the personal data we process are our authorised employees and our contractual partners that help us to secure operation and provide us with software. We can also make the personal data processed available to the Police of the Czech Republic or other law enforcement agencies, should they require us to do so in writing. We do not share with, impart to nor sell our databases to any other party.
2.6 The administrator’s intention to transfer personal data to third countries or international organisations
The National Theatre can only transfer personal data if it secures data protection. The primary manner of securing institutional data protection the National Theatre uses are standard contract clauses.
2.7 The time over which personal data are stored, or the criteria applied for determination of such a time
The times over which we store personal data are determined in terms of compatible reasons for their processing, which particularly include the obligations to retain data for the purposes of audit or specific stipulations of valid legal regulations. The National Theatre archives maintain data pertaining to our artistic activities in the public interest. All the times set by law for shredding of our documents are stipulated in the respective National Theatre internal regulation.
CCTV recordings are only retained for the minimum time necessary.
3. The right to require that the administrator make accessible the data subject’s personal data, correct and erase such data, or reduce their processing, and the right to raise objections against the processing of personal data, and the right to transfer data
3.1 The right to access information pertaining to personal data
You are entitled to require and acquire from us information as to whether we process your personal data and as to what personal data of yours we process, and You are also entitled to receive a copy containing the specification of the personal data processed.
3.2 The right to have personal data corrected
You are entitled to require that we correct the personal data of yours we process, should such data be inaccurate. We are obliged to correct your personal data if You so require, yet we need You to collaborate with us in this respect.
3.3 The right to have personal data erased – the right to have your personal data forgotten
Should You so require from us, You are entitled to have your personal data erased.
Should, however, processing of your personal data be necessary for the performance of the right to free expression and information, for the execution of our legal duties or for the pursuance of our mission in the public interest, for the purposes of archiving of theatre, music-dramatic and ballet works, the performance and defence of legal claims, we will not be able to satisfy your request.
3.4 The right to have the processing of personal data reduced
You are entitled to require that we reduce the processing of your personal data, should such data be inaccurate or should you wish that we do so.
3.5 The right to have personal data transferred
If we process your personal data on the basis of your consent or on the basis of a contractual relation, You are entitled to receive the information pertaining to such data in a format You can transfer to another administrator.
3.6 The right to object to having personal data processed
You are entitled at any time to raise objections against having your personal data processed for reasons concerning your specific situation. Should you object to having your personal data processed due to direct marketing, your personal data will no longer be processed.
4. The right to revoke consent to having personal data processed, without affecting the legitimacy of the processing of personal data on the basis of consent granted prior to its revocation
If we process your personal data on the basis of your consent, You are entitled to revoke such consent. This will, however, not affect our right to process your personal data at the time prior to the revoking of your consent.

You can turn to our Data Protection Officer in the matter of your legitimate right to personal data protection. Due to our being solely entitled to convey your personal data to You, we may ask You to give proof of your identity.
6. The right to lodge complaints with a supervisory authority
Should You deem the processing of your personal data questionable and be of the opinion that the National Theatre processes your personal data at variance with the Regulation, You are also entitled to lodge a complaint with the Office for Personal Data Protection of the Czech Republic.
