The last premiere of this season will be Orphée aux enfers by the French composer Jacques Offenbach at the Karlín Music Theatre on 6 and 7 July staged. The renowned directorial duo of the Caban brothers created modern concept of the production - the audience will have the opportunity to take a look into the sometimes even tragicomic aspects of the European bureaucracy. The State Opera Orchestra will perform under the baton of Jan Chalupecký. The choreography was created by one of the leading contemporary choreographer of the Czech dance scene Jan Kodet. The author of the costume design is the world-known artist Simona Rybáková. The leading roles will be sung in alternations by Josef Moravec/Richard Samek (Orpheus) and Lenka Pavlovič/Jana Sibera (Eurydice).

„As far as Offenbach´s work is concerned, I have already sung several roles that give me the exact idea what is coming,“ said Josef Moravec. It is not even going to be the first cooperation with the Caban brothers. „I performed in Bernstein´s Candide several years ago and it was directed by them. I always appreciate our cooperation and I believe that Orpheé aux enfers will be funny and successful production.“
Offenbach’s operetta has attained immortality thanks to its engrossing melodies, effulgent dialogues and, last but not least, the ”Infernal Galop” (the music for the “can-can”), which in the wake of the work’s premiere, at the Théâtre des BouffesParisiens on 21 October 1858, went on to become a musical symbol of Paris. In Bohemia, Orphée aux enfers was first staged at the Royal Czech Provisional Theatre in Prague on 13 December 1863. Some 158 years since its premiere, the operetta remains a dashing, still topical, satire entertaining audiences worldwide.
The next opera premiere will be Un ballo di maschera by Giuseppe Verdi at the National Theatre in Prague on 5 Octorber 2017. The director of the production will be Dominik Beneš, the Orchestra of the National Theatre will be conducted by the Music Director of the National Theatre Opera Jaroslav Kyzlink.
