Musica non grata presents one of the most famous operetta by so-called jazz operetta king Paul Abraham.
12/9/2022
Ball im Savoy, the revue-tuned operetta by the Hungarian composer Paul Abraham, the king of jazz operetta of the 1930s, returns to the State Opera after eighty-nine years as a part of the Musica no grata project (www.musicanongrata.cz/en).
A "Crazy" story full of music hits, funny conspiracies and love plots is a mixture of jazz, Hungarian czardas, tango, klezmer, classic Viennese operetta and revue-tuned dance creations à la Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire. The operetta is directed by Martin Čičvák, a winner of the Alfréda Radok Prize. Choreographed by the tandem of Laco Cmorej and Silvia Beláková. The State Opera Orchestra performs under the baton of conductor and composer Jan Kučera. The haute-couture costumes designed by Greek-French designer Georges Vafias perfectly complete the atmosphere of the French Riviera. A number of well-known soloists from the National Theatre Opera and the State Opera star in the leading roles: Vanda Šípová, Doubravka Součková, Csaba Kotlár, Jiří Hájek, Linda Fernandez, Angela Nwagbo, Josef Moravec, Barbora Řerichová, Lucie Hájková, Vladimír Kratina, Richard Haan and others. Performed in Czech with English and German subtitles. More information and tickets.
