We are proud to announce that the National Theatre Prague has been shortlisted for the prestigious Opera House of the Year award at the 2024 International Opera Awards. This nomination not only honors our recent achievements but also celebrates the rich legacy of Czechia, a historical hot spot in the world of opera and classical music. Our nation has produced exceptional composers and artists, and today, the Czech Republic is once again at the forefront of the operatic world.
Among the nominees, our gifted mezzo-soprano, Arnheiður Eiríksdóttir, has been honoured with a nomination in the prestigious Rising Star category. This is a wonderful acknowledgment of her outstanding talent and commitment to the art of opera.
This recognition is a testament to the incredible dedication and talent of our artists, as well as the hard work and passion of everyone at the National Theatre. We are especially proud to be working alongside other outstanding nominees, including directors Calixto Bieito, Jetske Mijnssen, and set designer Anna-Sofia Kirsch, who have contributed to our productions in previous years and continue to be our partners in future production. Additionally, we were honoured to be part of the Savonlinna Opera Festival, which has also been nominated for Best Festival.
The winners will be revealed on October 2, 2024, during a grand ceremony at the Bayerische Staatsoper’s Prinzregententheater in Munich. The event will feature live performances by leading stars of the opera world, conducted by the esteemed Vladimir Jurowski.
