New CD with Leoš Janáček's The Excursions of Mr. Brouček recording!
1/6/2024
The Year of Czech Music also marks the 170th anniversary of the birth of composer Leoš Janáček (1854–1928). The National Theatre Opera and the State Opera will celebrate this important anniversary with the release of a brand new recording of Janáček's The Excursions of Mr. Brouček performed by the National Theatre Orchestra under the direction of Jaroslav Kyzlink and in cooperation with Supraphon. The new CD will be on sale from 21 June 2024.
The recording was made during the Covid pandemic exactly one hundred years after the premiere of The Excursions of Mr. Brouček at the National Theatre in April 1920. After Neumann and Jílek, this is only the third recording of this opera in the Supraphon catalogue. The composer dedicated it to T. G. Masaryk, the first president of the newly established Czechoslovakia. Even after a hundred years, this image of an "ordinary Czech man" is still relevant and worth recalling.
The main role of Mr. Brouček was performed by Jaroslav Březina. Other soloists participating on the CD are Aleš Briscein, František Zahradníček, Alžběta Poláčková, Jiří Sulženko, Jiří Brückler, Roman Janál, Martin Šrejma, Josef Moravec, Doubravka Součková and Stanislava Jirků. The spatial and colourful sound of the Rudolfinum's Dvořák Hall, where the recording was made, also plays an important role. The album can now be pre-ordered at supraphononline.cz at a discounted price. Celebrate Janáček's anniversary with us!
