Demisoloist of The Czech National BalletBiography
Born in Romania and raised in Canada from the age of four, Alexandra Pera's journey to ballet began after exploring artistic gymnastics, ballet, jazz, and tap dancing. She received her formal training at several schools across Canada and the United States, eventually graduating from the Charlotte School of Ballet in North Carolina, under the tutelage of Patricia McBride and Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux.
Following her graduation, Alexandra joined The Washington Ballet in the USA, Alberta Ballet in Canada, and BalletMet in the USA. Her versatile experience in these companies exposed her to a diverse repertoire of classical and contemporary works, including several soloist roles. She performed in full-length classical ballets such as Don Quixote, Giselle, Swan Lake, Cinderella, The Sleeping Beauty, La Sylphide, Madame Butterfly, and The Nutcracker. Her repertoire also includes numerous works by George Balanchine, such as Rubies, The Four Temperaments, Who Cares?, Serenade, Raymonda Variations, and Divertimento No. 15, along with pieces by choreographers like Twyla Tharp, Kirk Peterson, Septime Webre, Mark Diamond, Edwaard Liang, and Jean Grand-Maitre.
In 2015, Alexandra joined the Czech National Ballet as a member of the corps de ballet and was promoted to demi-soloist in 2016. Since then, she has danced leading roles such as Lise in La Fille mal gardée, Klara in The Nutcracker, Gerda in The Snow Queen, Stella in A Streetcar Named Desire, the Lilac Fairy and Princess Florine in The Sleeping Beauty, Dark Angel in Serenade, and one of the Stepsisters in Cinderella. She has had the privilege of performing in several works by Jiří Kylián, including Gods and Dogs, Symphony of Psalms, Bella Figura, Petite Mort, and Six Dances, alongside contemporary ballets like Fly Paper Bird by Marco Goecke, The Second Detail by William Forsythe, Eden Eden by Wayne McGregor, Cacti by Alexander Ekman, Perfect Example by Andrey Kaydanovskyi, Decadance by Ohad Naharin, Bill by Sharon Eyal, Kafka: The Trial by Mauro Bigonzetti, and Prelude Und Liebestod by Cayetano Soto.
As a guest artist, Alexandra has performed in Johan Kobborg’s Romeo and Juliet at Arena di Verona, Italy, for an audience of 15,000, and as a principal dancer in Jiří Bubeníček’s Má vlast in Prague’s Old Town Square. In 2018, she appeared in the Coppélia pas de deux and the piece “Moldova” from Radu Poklitaru’s Rain at the Regal de Balet International Ballet Gala in Bucharest, Romania. She has also performed at prestigious events such as the Romanian Embassy in Prague and the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa. Alexandra is the proud recipient of the "Most Admired Dancer" award from the Chautauqua Institution in the USA.
Outside of her ballet career, Alexandra is passionate about photography. She enjoys traveling and exploring new places with her fiancé Tudor, who is also a demi-soloist at the Czech National Ballet. The couple shares their life with two wonderful cats.
