Birgit Deharde

Biography

The choreologist and ballet mistress Birgit Deharde was born in Bremen. She received her dance training at the School of the Hamburg Ballet under the guidance of John Neumeier. From 1994 to 1996, she studied choreology at the Benesh Institute in London, following which she was engaged at the Stuttgart Ballet, where over the next 12 years she worked as a choreologist and assistant choreographer. She participated in staging classical and modern repertoire works, and also made movement notations of new ballets. In 2006, she received a diploma as a ballet educator. As a choreologist, Birgit Deharde has collaborated with renowned theatres worldwide. She has co-staged Marcia Haydée’s The Sleeping Beauty and John Cranko’s Onegin for a number of companies, including the Turkish National Ballet, the Hungarian National Ballet, the Royal Danish Ballet, the La Scala Ballet, the Norwegian National Ballet, the Finnish National Ballet, the Latvian National Ballet, the Staatsballett Berlin, the Royal Swedish Ballet and Balett Zürich. At the latter company, she drew up a dance notation of Christian Spuck’s 2014 choreography Anna Karenina, which she subsequently used for the work’s productions at the Norwegian National Ballet, the Moscow Academic Ballet, Bayerisches Staatsballett and the Korean National Ballet. For the Norwegian National Ballet, she has also created movement notations of The Nutcracker (Kaloyan Boyadiev) and Carmen (Liam Scarlett).
