Biography

Carlo Cerri was born in Rome. After gaining initial experience in research and opera, he became the resident lighting designer for Balletto di Toscana in Florence in 1989, a position he held until 2000. From 2001 to 2019, he served as the resident lighting designer for Aterballetto in Reggio Emilia.

Cerri has collaborated with numerous international ballet companies, including Alvin Ailey Dance Company, The Next Ballet in New York, Ballet Dortmund, Capitol Ballet in Toulouse, Gulbenkian Ballet in Lisbon, Jazz Ballets in Montreal, Basel Ballet, Bat Dor in Tel Aviv, the National Ballet of Prague, Companhia Nacional de Bailado in Lisbon, English National Ballet in London, Stuttgarter Ballet and Gauthier Dance in Stuttgart, Het National Ballet in Amsterdam, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montreal, the National Ballet of China in Beijing, Staatsballett Berlin, and Staatsoper Ballett in Hannover.

Lighting, set, video

He is the creator of video mapping installations such as The Starry Sky Above Me (Reggio Emilia, 2013), Agorà (Reggio Emilia, 2016), The Great Mother (Reggio Emilia, 2017), Deinos – Light from Chaos (Modena, 2022), and Fetonte (Modena, 2023).
