Cécile Da Costa

Biography

Prague based performer-singer, choreographer and pedagogue. Awarded Dancer of the year by Czech Dance Platform 2018 and nominated by the Total Physical awards in Fringe 2017 for her performance The Narrator , under Spitfire Company with whom she is collaborating as creator and performer since 2011.

In 2019 she premiered Roselyne, her first author theater production in Prague.

In 2021 Roselyne was selected as one of the three Czech productions to Twenty21 by Aerowaves – a European selection of the 20 top works in the field of physical theatre.

Currently she is working as a performer for a dance installation called 6 degrees, mixing movements and virtual reality.

She runs workshops based on movements and voice in Czech and in Europe. In her work she is searching for the connections between the vibrations of the body and the vibrations of the voice.

She teaches regular classes in the frame of the European project Dance Well focusing on people with Parkinson disease but opening to everyone, regardless of age, movement limitations, or experience.

She is also the co-fundator of a project called Learning with Circus, which aims to present to teachers from primary schools a set of circus-inspired activities, thanks to which they can expand their pedagogical register to help children develop coordination and motor skills, strengthen mathematical thinking, patience, and spatial orientation, work systematically with error, and much more.
