Dana Morávková

Biography

Dana Morávková (born 1971) enrolled in the TheatricalCollege of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague in 1989 in the field of acting, graduated in 1993, then immediately began studies of choreography in the Academy’s College of Music, receiving her diploma in 1998. From 1992 to 1994 she performed as a guest actress in the Drama Studio in Ústí nad Labem, and she has had regular engagements in Prague with the theatres ‘Na zábradlí’ (1993–1998) and ‘Bez zábradlí’ (2001 to the present). At ‘Na zábradlí’ she played the roles of Markýtka in Stroupežnický’s Naši furianti (Our Uppish and Defiant Fellows) and Masha in Gogol’s Revizor (The Government Inspector), and collaborated as choreographer in the successful staging of John Masteroff and John Kander´ Cabaret – all with stage director Petr Lébl. She also performed the role of Strouhalka in Maryša by the Mrštík brothers with stage director Vladimír Morávek and Renata in Václav Havel’s Ztížená možnost soustředění (The Increased Difficulty of Concentration) with stage director Antonín Krob. As a choreographer she has shared in many theatrical, musical, film, and television productions, of which we shall mention here only those involving collaboration with director Zdeněk Troška: the ballet Čertoviny (Devilishness, J.K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň, 1998), the films Z pekla štěstí (Good Fortune from Hell, 1999) and Andělská tvář (Angelic Face, 2002), the staging of Dvořák’s Rusalka at the Křižík Fountain in Prague in 1998, in which she also played the title role, and Dvořák’s Rusalka at the Prague State Opera (2005) and at the State Theatre in Košice (2006).
