Biography

Diviš Marek studied cinematography at the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, graduating in 1997 with the feature Akáty bílé (White Acacia, directed by Bohdan Sláma). Since the late 1990s, as director of photography, he has co-created numerous movies, starting with Mrtvej brouk (Dead Beetle, 1998, directed by Pavel Marek). He has worked on Ondřej Havelka’s full-length films Hastrman (Water Sprite, 2018) and Harlekýnovy milióny (Harlequin’s Millions, 2024). Moreover, he has collaborated on several documentaries, including Jitka Němcová’s Jsem slavná tak akorát (2012) and Nechte zpívat Mišíka (2017), dedicated to renowned Czech musicians. He received the coveted Czech Lion prize for the best cinematography for the film Štěstí (Happiness, 2005, directed by Bohdan Sláma), and the prize for the best cinematography for Venkovský učitel (The Country Teacher, 2008, directed by Bohdan Sláma) at the Stockholm International Film Festival. Diviš Marek also teaches at the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.
