Dominique Drillot
Biography
Born in 1959 in Tours, Dominique Drillot studied the fine arts at the École des Beaux-Arts in Tours while, at the same time, working as an assistant director and set designer. In October 2004 he was officially appointed professor of scenography at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts of Monaco.
In 1987 he created his first set design (Thème et 4 Variations) for Jean-Christophe Maillot, with whom he has collaborated regularly ever since, co-creating the productions of Le Jardin Jeux d'Amour, Lueur d'Amour, Bêtes Noires, Home Sweet Home, Dov'è la Luna, Ubuhuha, Vers un Pays Sage, Duo d'Anges, Concert d'Anges, Roméo et Juliette, Recto Verso, L’Île, Cendrillon,Casse-Noisette Circus, Opus 40, Entrelacs, Oeil pour Oeil, La Belle, Men’s Dance, D’une rive à l’autre, Les Noces, Miniatures and Le Songe.In addition to his regular creation for Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, he has been invited to work as a stage director and lifting designer with the Ballet du Nord, Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux, Ballet British Columbia and ballet companies in Rome, Lyon and Stuttgart. He has collaborated with choreographers of such renin as R. Oller, B. Jacquin, G. Lustig, C. Jansen, T. Brandsen, J. Baiz, S. Bennathan, I. Galili, L. Childs, E. Wubbe, G. F. Paoluzzi, G. Laurin, K. Debrock, M. Dietrich, etc.
In 2007 he created the lighting for the opening ceremony of the Games of the Small States of Europe in Monaco, in the next year for the Young Choreographers programmes at the studio of Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo. In 2009 he designed a choreographic show based on music hall with Josette Baiz. That summer, together with Matjash Mrozewski and Nicolo Fonte, he designed the sets and lighting for the Les Nuits de la Danse project with Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo. Moreover, he has created the lighting for the exhibition Etonnez-moi at Villa Sauber for the New National Museum of Monaco and for new shows performed during the centenary, including Jean-Christophe Maillot’s Le Fils Prodigue, Scheherazade and Daphnis et Chloé.
