Biography

Guest of the National Theatre Opera. One of opera’s leading dramatic baritones, he is a regular guest of leading opera companies. In recent seasons, he has appeared with Opera Pacific and with the Houston Grand Opera of Milwaukee as Verdi’s di Luna in Il trovatore and the title role of Nabucco, Cincinnati opera as Amonasro in Aida, Arizona Opera and the National Theatre Prague as Puccini’s Jack Rance in La fanciulla del West, the Austin Lyric Opera as Wagner’s Wotan in Die Walküre and the title role in Der fliegende Holländer, Puccini’s Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and the National Theatre Prague as the Four Villains in Offenbach’s Les Contes d‘Hoffmann, in Japan with the New National Theatre in Tokyo as Wotan and the Wanderer in Keith Warner’s production of Der Ring des Nibelungen, in Brazil as Strauss’s Jochanaan in Salome in Sao Paolo, with The Atlanta Opera as Puccini’s Scarpia in Tosca. He made his debut in the Metropolitan Opera as Germont in Verdi’s La traviata. He has also performed with the opera companies of Los Angeles, New York City, Miami, Austin, Minnesota, Utah, New Orleans, Baltimore, Columbus, Omaha, Calgary, Edmonton, Canadian, Montreal, Manitoba, Vancouver, Berlin, Bordeaux, Köln, Bregenz, Milan, Mannheim and Hamburg. As a concert artist, Mr. Albert has sung with the orchestras of Washington DC (National), Köln, Southwest Florida, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Jerusalem, Seattle, Minnesota, St. Paul, Los Angeles, Palm Beach, Greensboro, Grant Park Music Festival, and Madison, Vienna and Linz, Austria. He is also a resident artist with the Center for Black Music Research at Chicago’s Columbia College. Most recently, he performed Brahms Requiem at Grand Park, Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 with the Cincinnati May Festival, and the Minnesota Orchestra, and works by Liszt and Mussorgsky with the Cincinnaty May Festival. Mr. Albert may be heard on RCA’s Grammy Award Prix du Disque winning recording of Gershwin’s opera Porgy and Bess, EMI’s Frühlingsbegräbnis and a Florentine Tragedy by Zemlinsky conducted by James Conlon, and others.
