Biography

Evan LeRoy Johnson, a native of the United States, makes his National Theatre Opera debut in the 2023/24 season as the Prince in Dvořák's Rusalka at the State Opera. He studied voice at the University of Kentucky and the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. In September 2016, he made his European debut at the Norwegian National Opera in Benjamin Britten's War Requiem, directed by Calixto Bieito. Other engagements have taken him to renowned opera houses such as San Francisco Opera (Lensky, Eugene Onegin), Salzburg Festival (Malcolm, Macbeth), Opera Frankfurt (Don José, Carmen), Glyndebourne (The Prince, Rusalka), Opera Philadelphia (Rodolfo, La bohème), Opernhaus Zürich (Narraboth, Salome), Dallas Opera (Pinkerton, Madama Butterfly), etc. In 2018 he made his debut at the Bavarian State Opera Munich as Cassio (Otello) and has been a member of the company since the 2021/22 season.
