Frank Albert
Biography
Set designer Frank Albert was born in Berlin and studied architecture and design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, at Kingston University London, as well as stage and costume design at the Technical University of Berlin under Professor Andrea Kleber and Professor Peter Sykora.
For his final thesis on Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen, he was awarded a scholarship for Robert Wilson's Watermill Center in New York, where he worked on various projects.
In the following years, further engagements took him to, among others, the Helsinki Opera, the Theater an der Wien, and the State Theatre Nuremberg.
Since 2004, Frank Albert has been working as a freelance set and costume designer, as well as a video artist, contributing to productions at venues such as Gothenburg Opera, Kammerspiele Paderborn, Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern, State Theatre Nuremberg, Theater Wilhelmshaven, Linz Opera, Theater Ingolstadt, Theater Regensburg, Theater Münster, Theater Memmingen, Theater Bregenz, Theater Bielefeld, Theater Trier, Aalto Theatre Essen, and the Burgtheater Vienna.
Frank Albert also teaches as a guest lecturer at the Georg Simon Ohm University in Nuremberg, specialising in spatial concepts and stage design.
