Georges Vafias

Georges Vafias studied architecture in Greece, philosophy of art and culture at the Sorbonne, and scenography at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, where he lives. He has worked as a set/costume designer and an architect in France (Rond Point, La Tempête, Odéon-Théâtre de l'Europe, Théâtre National de Chaillot, Théâtre du Soleil, etc.), Greece (Greek National Opera, Odeon of Herodes Atticus and Megaron Concert Hall in Athens, Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus), Slovakia (Slovak National Theatre and Aréna Theatre in Bratislava), Bahrain, China and South Korea. Georges Vafias has designed sets and costumes for the stage director Martin Čičvák’s productions for the National Theatre in Brno (Friedrich Schiller’s Mary Stuart), and Prague’s ABC Theatre (based on Charlie Chaplin’s film The Great Dictator) and Rokoko Theatre (an adaptation of David Grossman’s novel A Horse Walks into a Bar).
