Grischa Asagaroff
Biography
Grischa Asagaroff was born in Germany. He has worked in numerous leading opera houses including those of Munich, Dresden, Dortmund, and the Vienna Staatsoper where he worked closely among others with Jean-Pierre Ponnelle. Since 1979 he has been working regularly at the Zurich Opera House where he was also artistic director and directed numerous productions including Maria Stuarda (Donizetti), Il barbiere di Siviglia (Rossini), I Puritani, La Sonnambula (Bellini), Ernani (Verdi), Fedora (Cilea), L'elisir d'amore (Donizetti), Eugen Onegin (Tchaikovsky), Manon Lescaut (Puccini), I Pagliacci (Leoncavallo), Cavaleria rusticana (Mascagni), Andrea Chénier (Giordano) and many other productions. He has also directed Der ring des Nibelungen (Wagner), Così fan tutte, Idomeneo (Mozart), Carmen (Bizet), L'amico Fritz (Mascagni), Simon Boccanegra (Verdi) and many others which he has directed in Vienna, Milano, Athens, Buenos Aires, Dresden, Madrid, Monte Carlo, Houston and many other opera houses.
