Herbert Murauer

Born in Wels, Austria, the costume and set designer Herbert Murauer studied stage design at the Mozarteum University Salzburg. After graduation, he was engaged at the Staatstheater Stuttgart, among others. Since 1996, he has been a freelance set and costume designer, and has regularly worked with the stage director Christof Loy. Their joint productions include La Gioconda in Bremen, Manon, Don Carlo and Lucia di Lammermoor at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Der Rosenkavalier and La bohème at La Monnaie in Brussels, Ariadne auf Naxos at London’s Royal Opera House, Saul and Roberto Devereux at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Faust and Die Fledermaus in Frankfurt, Il turco in Italia at the Grand Théâtre in Geneva, in Copenhagen and at the Los Angeles Opera, Eugene Onegin at the Norwegian National Opera in Oslo and the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, La fanciulla del West at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm, Arabella at the Teatro Real in Madrid, etc. He has also worked with the stage directors Elijah Moshinsky, Helmuth Lohner and Johannes Erath, and with a number of other theatres, including the Theater an der Wien in Vienna and the Korean National Opera in Seoul, as well as with the Glyndebourne Festival Opera, etc.
