Biography

Czech dancer and choreographer Igor Vejsada graduated from the Ballet conservatory in home city Brno and then he studied as a intern at the Ballet academy of Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow (1975–1976). He started his 20 years of dancer-career (succesfully participating at home and international competitions) at the National Theatre of Brno, where he created many roles including Mercutio (Romeo and Juliet), Miraculous Mandarin, The Firebird, Shaman (Le Sacre du Printemps), Puck (A Midsummer Night's Dream), Clown (Swan Lake and Cinderella). Then he got a two years contract from the head of the Hungarian Györi Ballet Ivan Markó. After returning to Brno, Igor Vejsada founded New Ballet Brno, where he also devoted to contemporary dance. In 1992 he became a member of the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company in Israel and has been still active as a teacher there. In 1994 he moved to the ballet company of the National Theatre in Mannheim, led at that time by choreographer Phillip Talard, with whom he still cooperates. He has guest appeared almost in all European countries, in the USA, Australia, China or Japan. In 1995 he graduated from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava in choreography and since that time he has devoted to choreography and pedagogical work. From 1996 to 2013 he led the ballet company of the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre (NMST) in Ostrava where he has created dozens of the ballet productions such as Coppélia, White Dreams, The Beatles, The Doors, Dvořák‘s Requiem, Romeo and Juliet, Snowwhite and Seven Dwarfs, Dispute or Touches and Connections, Miracle in Silence and others. For the NMST Opera company he has created choreograophy for Oberon, La muette de Portici, Two Widows, Prince Igor, Rigoletto, Theatre Behind the Gate, Jenůfa, Manon Lescaut, La rondine, The Rake‘s Progress, La Wally and others. He has also taught at the Janáček Academy of Music in Brno. He has been invited to the juries of international dance competitons and festival and is a member of the international jury of the Monaco Dance Forum. Important is also his teaching and choreographical cooperation with wheelchair bound – clients of the Musical School in Ostrava – Mariánské Hory. Since 2013 he has been ballet maestro and choreographer of the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre Ballet ensemble.
