Biography

Guest of the National Theatre Opera.Born in 1983 in Ostrava, where he studied voice under the tutelage of Eliška Pappová at the Janáček Conservatory. He has won several awards at international singing competitions, including the Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský Competition in Trnava and the Antonín Dvořák Competition in Karlovy Vary, and was also a finalist in Operalia 2007. He further extended his education at voice master classes given by Peter Dvorský and, owing to a scholarship received at the Belvedere competition in Vienna, at Verena Keller’s courses in Germany. He launched his professional career at the Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava, performing in the role of Pistola in Verdi’s opera Falstaff. On this stage he still sings Leporello (Mozart: Don Giovanni) and Truffaldino (R. Strauss: Ariadne auf Naxos). He appeared as Sarastro (Mozart: Die Zauberflöte) at the Opera of the State Theatre Košice. He was invited to Prague’s National Theatre to perform the role of Masetto (Mozart: Don Giovanni) in the Mozart anniversary year 2006, in which with the National Theatre ensemble he also appeared as a guest at the Ravenna Festival. In 2007 in Prague he enacted the roles of Larkens and Castro in Puccini’s La fanciulla del West under the conductor John Fiore. In 2009 he portrayed Mago and Araldo in the production of Händel’s Rinaldo, in which he also appeared in a co-production staged in France (Caen, Rennes) and Luxembourg. His further role in the National Theatre is Leporello in Mozart´s Don Giovanni. Since the start of the 2008/09 season he has been a member of the ensemble of Komische Oper in Berlin, where he has performed in the roles of Masetto (Don Giovanni), Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), Marquis d’Obigny (Verdi: La traviata), Colline (Puccini: La boheme), Sourin (Tchaikovsky: The Queen of Spades) and Eremit (Weber: Der Frieschütz).
