Jan Philipp Gloger
Biography
German stage director Jan Philipp Gloger will make his debut at the National Theatre Opera with a production of Charles Gounod's Faust in March 2025.
Jan Philipp Gloger, born in Hagen in 1981, studied Applied Theatre Studies in Gießen and Directing at the Zurich University of the Arts. During his studies, he worked as a stage musician and as an assistant to the group Rimini Protokoll and presented productions at the Ruhrtriennale and Frankfurter Positionen. Since 2007, he has worked as a freelance theatre director at the Residenztheater in Munich, the Deutsches Theater and the Schaubühne in Berlin, the Staatsschauspiel Dresden, the Nationaltheater Mannheim and the state theatres in Wiesbaden, Karlsruhe and Mainz, where he was head director of drama from 2011 to 2013. One focus of his work is new drama. Since 2010, he has also staged operas, including at the Zurich Opera, the Semperoper Dresden, the Frankfurt Opera, the Bayreuth Festival, the National Opera Amsterdam, the Royal Opera House in London and most recently the operetta ‘Die Dubarry’ at the Volksoper Vienna, for which he was awarded the Bavarian Radio's ‘Frosch’ operetta prize. His productions have been shown at festivals such as the Ruhrfestspiele Recklinghausen, the Autorentheatertage Berlin and the Prague Theatre Festival and have been awarded the Directing Prize of the Bayerische Theatertage, the Nachspielpreis of the Heidelberger Stückemarkt, the Audience Prize of the Mülheimer Theatertage and a nomination for the London Olivier Award.Since the 2018/19 season, Jan Philipp Gloger has been director of the drama ensemble at the Staatstheater Nürnberg, where he has also directed drama and opera.
