Jiří Kalendovský

Biography

Guest of the National Theatre Opera. He studied singing privately and developed artistically at vocal courses in Germany and Bulgaria. He matured artistically at regional stages in Olomouc and Ostrava, where he created many roles of Czech and world repertoire Kecal (Smetana: The Bartered Bride), Gremin (Tchaikovsky: Eugen Onegin), Basilio (Rossini: Il barbiere di Siviglia), Zaccaria (Verdi: Nabucco) and others. During his engagement in Ostrava, he guest performed in the Brno opera (Gremin and Kecal) and in the National Theatre he interpreted Sparafucile (Verdi: Rigoletto) and Sarastro (Mozart: Die Zauberflöte). In 1989 he accepted an engagement in the National Theatre. Shortly, he enlarged his repertoire there by Rocco (Beethoven: Fidelio) and the Great Inquisitor (Verdi: Don Carlos). His repertoire from the past years in the National Theatre include many roles in Czech operas, Mozart’s Sarastro and Speaker (Die Zauberflöte), Bartolo (Le nozze di Figaro) and Il Commendatore (Don Giovanni), Verdi’s Marquis d’Aubigny (La traviata) and Il Re (Aida), Bizet’s Zuniga (Carmen) and Puccini’s Angelotti (Tosca). He guest performed in Japan, the Netherlands, in Finland, Germany, Spain, Latvia, Greece and Austria. He contributed to several CD recordings, cooperated with radio and television.
