Ing. Jiří Maceška
Biography
Jiří Maceška studied at the Faculty of Commerce of the University of Economics in Prague, worked in international trade with a focus on the Middle East and subsequently served as Deputy Minister of Trade at the Ministry of Industry and Trade (1998–2002). Between 2002 and 2007 he was the Czech ambassador to the Organisation of Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris. At the time of the Czech Republic’s Presidency of the Council of the EU, he co-ordinated the activities of the Ministry of Finance on the ECOFIN Council, at the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
In 2009 he was elected Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Česká pošta (Czech Post). Furthermore, he is a member of the Supervisory Committee of the Czech Television Council, the Science Council of the University of Economics in Prague, and the Board of the League Against Cancer, Vice-President of the Czech-Israeli Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Council of the National Theatre. He is an ardent lover of opera and ballet, as well as modern jazz, and likes refined cuisine and French wine.
