Joop Stokvis
Biography
Joop Stokvis, a former dancer, studied at the Academy of Costume Design in Amsterdam, following which, in 1963, he became a resident costume designer for the Nederlands Dans Theater. Later on, he assumed the same post at the Scapino Ballet in Rotterdam and the Dutch National Ballet. Since 1990, he has been a freelance costume designer, working among others for Les Grands Ballets Canadiens in Montreal, Ballet du Capitole in Toulouse, the Ballet of the Komische Oper in Berlin, the Royal Swedish Ballet in Stockholm and the Royal Ballet
of Flanders, collaborating with Alvin Ailey (including Knoxville Summer of 1915), George Balanchine, Glen Tetley, Nils Christe, Hans van Manen (including Trois Gnossiennes), Benjamin Millepied, Jiří Kylián (including Trans gured Night and Sym- phony of Psalms) and other renowned choreographers.
