Jozef Chabroň
Biography
Since 2014, Jozef Chabroň has been director of the Slovak Philharmonic Choir (SFS), where from 2006 to 2013 he served as assistant chorus master. During his tenure, he has collaborated with Emmanuel Villaume, James Judd, Juraj Valčuha, Serge Baudo, Semyon Bychkov, James Conlon and other famous conductors. The career highlights include work on the 2011 Opernhaus Zürich production of Schönberg’s Moses und Aron, premiered under the legendary conductor Christoph von Dohnányi; the SFS’s performances in the adaptations of Modest P. Mussorgsky’s Khovanshchina and Hector Berlioz’s Les Troyens at the Wiener Staatsoper; and performances of Tchaikovsky’s operas The Queen of Spades and Iolanta along with the Berliner Philharmoniker under Kirill Petrenko. He also conducted the SFS’s separate concerts in Hamburg, Bratislava, Žilina, Nové Zámky and Piešťany. Besides the Slovak Philharmonic Choir, he has worked with the BBC Singers. From September 2023, he will hold the post of music assistant to the principal chorus master of the Wiener Staatsoper, while continuing to collaborate with the SFS as a guest choir master. Jozef Chabroň studied choral conducting at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava under the tutelage of Blanka Juhaňáková.
