Juraj Kuchárek
Biography
Juraj Kuchárek studied design and painting reproduction at the School of Theatre Design and scenography at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, graduating in 2007 with a production of N. V. Gogol’s play The Marriage, directed by Jozef Jenčo. He subsequently worked mainly as a TV designer in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, participating in numerous television programmes and shows (the First Czech-Slovak SuperStar, Talent Mania, Let’s Dance 5, A Joke Worth a Hundred, etc.). The theatre projects he has designed sets for recently include the productions of the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava of Anna Jablonská’s Pagans (2012), Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre (2014; both directed by Marián Amsler), the Arena Theatre in Bratislava of Pavel Kohout’s play The Uprising (directed by Sláva Daubnerová, 2014) and the Klicpera Theatre in Hradec Králové of Molière’s comedy L'école des femmes (directed by Marián Amsler, 2015). He has also devoted to painting and illustrating books for children and specialist literature. Juraj Kuchárek is the founder of the association “ô”, whose aim it is to create space for the development of contemporary alternative art, and has organised the Evening of Improvisation in Pezinok, Slovakia.
