Leona Qaša Kvasnicová
Biography
In 1987, Leona Qaša Kvasnicová set up her first dance company, Crazy Dancers, followed in 1997 by the Free Dance Group and in 2003 by the third, IF. In 1990 she began studying dance pedagogy at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno. In 1995 and 1996 she attended the Rotterdamse Dansacademie, in 2000 she started to study choreography at the Music Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. As a dancer, she collaborated with the UNO company, participated in the musical show Projekt 1999 at the ABC theatre in Prague, performed in Hamburg and elsewhere, including in the show Cutting the Diamonds in Switzerland (chor: Parwin Hadinia). Between 1997 and 1999 she was a soloist of the Bratislava Theatre of Dance (chor. Ján Ďurovčík), in 2000 a member of the Ballet Prague company (chor. Libor Vaculík, Pavel Šmok), in 2001 she appeared in Paris within the project Archange with the group Choreonyx (chor. Bruce Taylor) and in productions by renowned Czech contemporary dance choreographers (Jan Kodet, Lenka Ottová). Moreover, she co-operated with the Anita Hatjieflychiou dance school in Cyprus, creating choreographies for students and teaching modern dance. In Prague, she established her own studio, DANCEHOUSE. As a choreographer, she has to date participated in the productions Galileo, Excalibur, Cabaret, Can Can (DJKT in Plzeň), Elixir of Life, Ballad for a Bandit and Circus Havel (Husa na provázku theatre in Brno), Hell (Municipal Theatre in Brno), Mata Hari, Adam and Eve, Cleopatra, etc. Leona Qaša Kvasnicová has also worked on the TV shows The Czech Republic Seeks a Superstar II and III, MISS Czech Republic 2008, New Year’s Eve Show 2009/2010, Vivaldiano, sat on the jury of the STARDANCE competition and co-created the video clips for the pop singers Lucie Vondráčková and Tereza Černochová.
