Biography
Martelle Cho, originally from Australia, began her ballet training at the Australian Conservatoire of Ballet, where she studied from 2016 to 2018. She furthered her education at the prestigious John Cranko Schule in Stuttgart, Germany, between 2018 and 2020, refining her technique and artistry. After completing her studies, she joined Norwegian National Ballet II, where she performed from 2020 to 2022, gaining valuable professional experience. In 2023, Martelle became a member of the Czech National Ballet, marking a significant step in her burgeoning career.
Martelle’s diverse repertoire spans a range of classical and contemporary works. Among her notable classical roles are the Sapphire Jewel, Aurora’s Friends, and the Fairy of Grace in Márcia Haydée’s The Sleeping Beauty; Girlfriends and Dawn in Ronald Hynd’s Coppélia; the Act I Girls in John Cranko’s Onegin; and Lilies in Cranko’s Romeo and Juliet. She has also performed as the First Shade in Natalia Makarova’s La Bayadère and danced in John Cranko’s Swan Lake as a member of the pas de six, the cygnets, and the Polish Princess.
In addition to her classical roles, Martelle has showcased her versatility in neoclassical and contemporary works. She performed as one of the two sylphs in Johan Kobborg’s La Sylphide, as part of the three couples in Hans Van Manen’s Frank Bridge Variations, and in Krzysztof Pastor’s Moving Rooms. Her contemporary repertoire includes Alexander Ekman’s A Swan Lake and Viktor Konvalinka’s The Sun, the Moon, and the Wind.
With her international training and professional experience, Martelle brings a unique blend of technical precision and expressive artistry to the Czech National Ballet. Her captivating performances continue to leave a lasting impression on audiences.
