Biography

Martin Šinták will create his first choreography for the National Theatre Opera in the 2023/24 season (for a new production of Nabucco). A graduate of the Prague Dance Conservatory, he has worked at the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň as a dancer, choreographer and ballet master. As a soloist, he has portrayed numerous lead roles of the classical and contemporary repertoire, ranging from princes to psychologically profound characters. He has appeared as a guest at the National Theatre in Prague, and in Olomouc and Liberec, showcasing his dance art, as well as vocal and dramatic skills. Since 2008, he has also taught, currently mainly at the Plzeň Conservatory. In 2020, he founded the Martin Šinták Move and Dance studio, holding classes for all generations. Over the recent years, he has primarily devoted to choreography, mainly working on productions of operas (L'italiana in Algeri, directed by Jakub Hliněnský, Plzeň; La bohème, directed by Magdalena Švecová, National Theatre in Brno), operettas (Die lustige Witwe, Die Fledermaus, etc.) and musicals. Martin Šinták has regularly collaborated with the stage director Tomáš Ondřej Pilař (productions of the operas Rusalka, L’Orfeo, Iris, The Bartered Bride, Alceste and L'incoronazione di Poppea in Plzeň, and Mefisfofele at the South Bohemia Theatre in České Budějovice).
