
Biography
Based in London, Natalia Stewart designs costumes and sets for ballet, opera and theatre. She started her career as a classical ballet dancer, graduating from Moscow Choreographic Academy (Bolshoi Academy), Moscow, Russia. As professional ballet dancer with Bolshoi Theatre and Moscow City Ballet she performed many roles in classical and modern repertoire in Russia and around the world. In London Natalia received BA in theatre design after completing her studies in London College of Fashion. Immediately after she worked in many London West End production as a wardrobe mistress. (Grease, Sideman, Napoleon, D’Oyly Carte Opera) In 2001 Natalia joined Royal Opera House as costume supervisor and worked with world famous designers, realizing their vision on stage (Yolanda Sonnabend, Peter Farmer, Anthony Dowell), also preserving heritage classics of Royal Ballet and Opera (G. Balanchine, F. Ashton, K. MacMillan). All that experience created an excellent base for building Natalia’s own career as a theatre designer. In recent years Natalia worked on design projects with Icelandic Opera, Astana Opera House, Royal Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet and Royal New Zealand Ballet. Natalia has worked with stage directors and choreographers including Wayne McGregor, Johan Kobborg, Ethan Stiefel, Liam Scarlett, Tamara Rojo, Natalia Makarova, Kim Brandstrup, Greg Eldridge, Gerard Jones, Noa Naamat and film director Tom Harper.
