Sets and costume designer
Pablo Núñez is one of the most distinguished Chilean set and costume designers of the present time. He was born in Prague. Pablo studied theatre design at the Escuela de Teatro at the Universidad de Chile and since 1983, he has worked at the Teatro Municipal in Santiago de Chile, where he has designed sets and costumes for some five dozen productions. Pablo has also gained acclaim in opera (Mefistofeles, Don Giovanni, Macbeth, Le nozze di Figaro, Il barbiere di Siviglia...), ballet (La Sylphide, Swan Lake, Coppélia, The Nutcracker, Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty, Carmen, etc.), as well as in drama. He has directed a number of opera productions too. Over the long term, he has cooperated with television channels, primarily creating costumes for serials and telenovelas. Pablo Núñez has closely collaborated with Márcia Haydée since the 1990s. In 2021, he was appointed director of the costume department at the Teatro Municipal. In his new post, he will lead a team whose task it is to continue to work on significant Teatro Municipal productions, as well as for the digital platform Municipal Delivery, which was set up during the peak of the pandemic with the aim to make it possible to view theatre on the internet.
