Petr Strnad

Biography

Soloist of the National Theatre Ballet Born in Ústí nad Orlicí, Petr Strnad began receiving his dance education at the Primary School of Arts in Žamberk. At the age of 11, he passed the entrance exams and enrolled at the Prague Dance Conservatoire, where he studied from 1998 to 2006 with Professors J. Slavický, P. Ždichynec, J. Krob, A. Drapalíkový, N. Danko, J. Muchka and other pedagogues. He represented the school on stages at home and abroad (Bratislava, Valenciennes, Magdeburg, Fürth), dancing the Prince, Bluebird and Cavalier in The Sleeping Beauty (choreography: J. Slavický after M. Petipa), the duet in Suite en blanc (choreography: S. Lifar), Pas de deux in the ballet The Flower Festival in Genzano (choreography: A. Bournonville), Pas de six in Emeralda and also appeared in the choreographies Lucky Seven (T. Rychetský, D. Stránský), Bolero (P. Zuska), Talking to Frida (J. Kodet), Polovtsian Dances (J. Slavický after M. Fokin), Trojan Games (R. North), Double Role – solo (A. Drapalíková), Lachian Dances (L. Hynková), Valachian Games (J. and B. Muchka). After graduating from the Prague Dance Conservatoire in 2006, he became a member of the National Theatre Ballet. In 2009 he was appointed a demi-soloist and two years later a soloist. His classical solo roles include Lensky in Onegin (choreography: J. Cranko), Gurn in La Sylphide, 1st variation, Pas de six and Tarantella from Act 3 of the ballet Napoli (choreography: F. Andersen after A. Bournonville), Roderigo in Othello, Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet, the Russian Dance in The Nutcracker (choreography: Y. Vamos) and the Friend of the Prince in Cinderella (choreography: J.-Ch. Maillot). When it comes to the modern repertoire, he has danced in choreographies by Jiří Kylián – Sinfonietta, Petite Mort, Last Touch; Mats Ek – Carmen; Petr Zuska – Le sacre du printemps, BREL – VYSOTSKY – KRYL / Solo for Three, D.M.J. 1953–1977, Maria’s Dream, Symphony No. 1 in D major, A Little Extreme, Little Touch of the Last Extreme; Jan Kodet – Goldilocks, Duel; Johan Greben and Uri Ivgi – Santa Says Cut It!; Zuzana Šimáková – Six Halves of a Human; Hana Turečková – The Little Prince. In 2005 he attended summer master classes led by the famous French dancer Cyril Atanassoff. He has won several prizes at international competitions: Prix Carpeaux (2004 - Valenciennes, 3rd place in the Pre-Professional category, and 2006 – 2nd place in the Pas de deux category), the Brno International Ballet Competition in 2006 (4th place with a merit award).
