Biography

Petr Wajsar studied composition, jazz and pop music arrangement at the Prague Conservatory with Angelo Michajlov (1993–94), Milan Svoboda (1994–98) and Michal Pavlíček (1998–99). He further honed his compositional skills at the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory with Stanislav Jelínek (1999–2000) and at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague with Václav Riedlbauch (2000–09). He has written classical, jazz, pop, incidental and film music. Petr Wajsar has composed works to commission for a number of Czech and foreign orchestras, including the Czech Philharmonic, the Prague Radio Symphony and the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic, and he has also collaborated with the Prague Spring festival. He has performed with the vocal ensemble Skety in the Czech Republic and abroad, earning several prestigious awards. His score for Ondřej Havelka’s film Hastrman (The Water Sprite) has received the coveted Czech Lion prize. His one-man experimental audio-recording project Develooper has garnered acclaim on small stages.
