Guest of the Opera

Biography

Tenor Philippe Castagner, born in Montreal, made his National Theatre Opera debut in October 2022 as Spoletta (Tosca). He completed his musical training at the University of British Columbia, and was subsequently accepted into the Young Artist Development Program at the Metropolitan Opera. The role of the Prince in Rusalka brought him to Bohemia, specifically to the J.K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň, where the artist found his home. Most recently, he has sung the roles of Don José in Carmen, Albert Gregor in The Makropulos Affair, Faust in Boito’s Mefistofele, Admeto in Gluck’s Alceste, and Nerone in the world premiere of Quo Vadis by Sylvie Bodorová. In the 2022/23 season he performs at the State Opera (Häberlein, Kleider machen Leute), at the South Bohemian Theatre in České Budějovice (Faust, Mefistofele) and the Moravian-Silesian National Theatre in Ostrava (Jeník, The Bartered Bride).
