Reinhard Traub

Reinhard Traub is collaborating with the National Theatre Opera in the 2023/24 season for the first time, on a new production of L'elisir d'amore. After completing his graphic design studies, in the mid-1980s he served as assistant to the lighting designer Chenault Spence in the USA, participating in several shows at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, before moving to Austria to join Oper Graz. Since 2006, he has been head of lighting at the Staatsoper Stuttgart, where he has worked on more than 350 productions. Moreover, he has collaborated with the music festivals in Glyndebourne, Bayreuth, Salzburg and Aix-en-Provence, the Ruhrtriennale, and opera houses in Berlin, Dresden, Vienna, Zurich, Paris (Châtelet, Opéra Bastille), Rome, Naples, Palermo, Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Geneva, Brussels, Barcelona, London (Covent Garden and ENO), Madrid, Los Angeles, Buenos Aires, Moscow, St Petersburg, etc. Of late, he has designed lighting for productions of La forza del destino and L'italiana in Algeri at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Tosca at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna, Die Zauberflöte and Carmen at the Staatsoper Berlin, Turandot and Norma at the Staatsoper Hamburg, Lulu and Aida in Salzburg, Tristan und Isolde, Parsifal, Lohengrin and Der Ring des Nibelungen at the Bayreuther Festspiele, Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria at the Wiener Staatsoper, and others.
