Sergei Poluektov was born in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. He studied piano, conducting and composing at various music schools in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Saratov. As a composer, he also studied at a university. In 1983 he graduated from the State Institute of Arts in his hometown, where he worked until 1990 as a ballet coach. He was also engaged as a ballet repetiteur at Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre. Since 1993 he has lived in Prague, working as a conductor and ballet coach at the National Theatre. He has participated in the staging of the ballets Swan Lake, Giselle, The Taming of the Shrew, Raymonda, The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Onegin, Romeo and Juliet and La Sylphide / Napoli. Sergei Poluektov is the author of the music direction and orchestral arrangement of Verdi’s opera La Traviata for the ballet La Dame aux Camélias.
