Biography

Coloratura soprano Vanda Šípová debuted at the Prague National Theatre Opera as Helga (Ivan Acher: Sternen-hoch) in April 2018. She has returned to the National Theatre Opera in the roles of Muse (Miloš Orson Štědroň: Don Hrabal), Yvonne (Krenek: Jonny spielt auf) and Madeleine de Faublas (Abraham: Ball im Savoy). She has guest appeared at the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň, F. X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec and the National Theatre Brno. Her current repertoire includes the roles of the Queen of the Night (Die Zauberflöte), Gilda (Rigoletto), Ophélie (Hamlet), Musetta (La bohème) and Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), among others. She enjoys working on contemporary crossover projects (f. i. the musical The Phantom of the Opera and Bernstein’s Mass). Moreover, she has appeared in drama productions (Prague City Theatres, Studio hrdinů in Prague, the National Theatre Brno). Vanda Šípová graduated from the Prague Conservatoire and continued to improve her singing skills under the guidance of Václav Zítek, Gabriela Beňačková and Vladimir Chernov; she currently works with Christina Vasileva.
