Biography
Vratislav Kříž is a graduate of the Prague Conservatory. In the years 1987-2010, after four years of working at the State Theatre in Ústí nad Labem, he was engaged as a soloist of Prague’s National Theatre Opera. He has created here a number of distinct world opera roles, among them: Posa (Verdi: Don Carlos), Enrico (Donizetti: Lucia di Lammermoor), the title role of Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Tchaikovsky’s Tomsky (The Queen of Spades) and the title role of Eugene Onegin.
At the present time, he is performing in the Czech operas Libuše, The Secret, The Kiss by Smetana, in Janáček‘s Jenůfa, as well as world operas, for example, Escamillo (Bizet: Carmen), Puccini’s Marcello (La boheme) and Cesare Angelotti (Tosca) and Mozart’s Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro). At the same time, he is appearing as a guest at the State Opera Prague in the role of Enrico in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor.
Vratislav Kříž has also performed on international opera stages and concert tours abroad. Since 1997 he has regularly sung in Japan within the National Theatre’s tours (Don Giovanni, Le nozze di Figaro). From 1999 to 2001 he performed at Teatro di Lirico in Cagliari, Sardinia.
