Wolfgang Gussmann
Biography
Wolfgang Gussmann worked as artistic advisor to Willy Decker while he was Intendant of the Ruhrtriennale from 2009 – 2011. They have worked together many times over the years, most recently on new productions of Lulu at the Vienna State Opera, Turandot at Den Norske Operan in Oslo, Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria at the Hamburg State Opera, Martin's Le Vin Herbé at the Ruhrtriennale and Korngold's Die tote Stadt/The Dead City and La Traviata at the Salzburg Festival. He also designed sets and costumes for the director Andreas Homoki. Their recent productions have included Das Land des Lächelns/The Land of Smiles at Zurich Opera, Lohengrin at the Vienna State Opera and Der fliegende Holländer/The Flying Dutchman at Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Other stations in his career have taken him to the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Staatsoper in Dresden, the Deutsche and Komische Oper in Berlin, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and opera houses in Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Tokyo and San Francisco. Wolfgang Gussmann was made a »Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres« by France in 2001 for his services to the arts.
