

Biography
Yaroslav Shemet will make his debut as conductor at the National Theatre Opera in the 2025/26 season (La bohème). He holds the positions of Artistic Director with the Silesian Philharmonic in Katowice and General Music Director of the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk. He began his conducting career at the remarkable age of 13. Since then, Shemet has performed in Sweden, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, China, Poland, and Ukraine, leading renowned ensembles like the Prague Symphony, Staatstheater Braunschweig, Sinfonia Varsovia and others. His performances have taken place in prestigious venues, including the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Konserthuset in Stockholm, Shanghai Grand Theatre, and Harbin Opera House, as well as at the festivals in Bayreuth, Munich, and Hong Kong. From 2020 to 2022, Shemet was the Principal Guest Conductor of the Neue Philharmonie Hamburg, in the 2020/2021 season, he held the position of Chief Conductor of the Lviv Symphony Orchestra in Lviv. In the opera world, his career as a music director began in 2018 at the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk with a production of Bizet's The Pearl Fishers. Future and recent engagements include a debut at the Polish National Opera with a new production of Cosi fan tutte, new productions of King Roger, Carmen, The Flying Dutchman and La bohème at the Baltic Opera, as well as debuts with NOSPR at the Warsaw Autumn Festival and The Presidential Symphony Orchestra in Ankara.
