Creatives

About

In the next installment of our popular project on March 26, 2025, we will present THE FICKLENESS OF INSPIRATION, a new choreographic work by Czech National Ballet’s first soloist, Matěj Šust. Audiences will get a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process—watching rehearsals, seeing how the choreography is lit, and following the development of the lighting design. Matěj Šust will personally guide you through his artistic vision. The evening will conclude with a full performance of the piece, complete with costumes, makeup, and stage lighting.

“I chose the music of Claude Debussy because he is one of the few composers influenced by Impressionism. After the era of Realism, Impressionism became a gateway to other artistic movements and, ultimately, to modern art itself. That idea mirrors the essence of my choreography, THE FICKLENESS OF INSPIRATION. The title and description give the audience a clear sense of what they’ll see on stage—but from there, it’s up to them to discover their own interpretations,” says Matěj Šust.

FICKLE INSPIRATION

Inspiration is fickle
It comes as it pleases
It’s choosy in who it tickles
It feels like brain fleas

It drives us to create
It gives us a passion
It helps us to recreate
It drives us to distraction

Inspiration is fickle
It comes as it pleases
It can leave you in a pickle
It chooses who it teases
