Březina´s Toufar with Soňa Červená is guest starring in New York

The chamber opera by Aleš Březina about the Roman Catholic priest Josef Toufar who 65 years ago was martyred by the State Security Service, is after guest performances in Nitra, Bratislava, Dresden, Litomyšl or Bucharest also coming to New York. The National Theatre will give two performances in the Bohemian National Hall on the 8th and 10th of May 2015.

Hansel and Gretel at the State opera

The classic story of Hansel, Gretel and The Gingerbread Witch is coming back to Prague! The State Opera invites children, their parents and grandparents for a theatrical adventure, that will be far different from any ordinary opera. Hansel and Gretel will prepare a more colourful, fun and sweet spectacle, not at all long, entirely in Czech, and at the end good prevails over evil of course.

Opera Europa Experts: alternative space is ideal during the reconstruction of the State Opera

Prague has a chance to keep a wide selection of opera performances during reconstruction of the State Opera, which begins in July 2016. Opera Europa experts agreed on this with the management of the National Theatre as a conclusion of the joint two-day meeting. Maintaining an adequate number of opera performances and thus satisfying the growing demand for this genre is one of the objectives of the National Theatre during the upcoming renovation.

The role of Boris Godunov will be performed by leading Russian singers Mikhail Kazakov and Vitaly Efanov at the National Theatre

Two renowned Russian singers Mikhail Kazakov and Vitaly Efanov accepted the offer to perform the lead role in the newest opera premiere of the National Theatre Boris Godunov. The work by Modest P. Mussorgsky will be musically staged by artistic director of the National Theatre Opera Petr Kofroň and the director of the production is one of the most outstanding contemporary opera talents Linda Keprtová. Currently there are thirteen performances of the new production, which works with both Mussorgsky's authentic versions of the opera from 1869 and 1874, scheduled in the current and upcoming opera season . One of the most impressive works of Russian operatic literature will premiere in the National Theatre on Thursday 26 and Sunday 29 March 2015.

Morávek´s Flute from God at the Estates Theatre

The intriguing story of Die Zauberflöte will be retold to audiences by one of today´s most original Czech directors Vladimir Moravek and staged in a fantastical world of collages of leading designer Miroslav Huptych. The premiere of Mozart's opera, musically prepared by Jaroslav Kyzlink, is scheduled to take place on February 5th and 7th 2015 at the Estates Theatre.
