Rossini´s La Cenerentola at the Estates Theatre

After Bellini's Norma The National Theatre introduces another bel canto masterpiece. Rossini's La Cenerentola, musically prepared by Jan Kučera, directed by Hungarian director Enikő Eszenyi and set design by Kentaur premieres on 21 and 22 January 2016. Starring as Angelina is Ukrainian mezzo-soprano Lena Belkina and successful Czech singer, primarily engaged in Austria and Germany Kateřina Hebelková. In the role of Don Ramiro the audience will enjoy soloist of the National Theatre Martin Šrejma and also Greek tenor Vassilis Kavayas.

Lost Objects

Lost Objects is a musical exploration of the meaning of memory. With the spine of a baroque oratorio layered with the muscle of modern times, it is a powerful monument to the loss of people, things, rituals, ideas. The piece was written by American composers and founders of the New York-based organisation Bang on a Can Michael Gordon, David Lang and Julia Wolfe. It was originally intended for the baroque virtuosity of the legendary Concerto Köln orchestra. In a slightly altered and authorised version the work will premiere 17 December 2015 at The New Stage in Prague under the batton of Artistic director of Opera Petr Kofron.

Two opera fairy tales at The National Theatre

Two fairy tales with a happy ending, two different musical worlds. The National Theatre will, for the first time in its history, stage operas The Nightingale by Igor Stravinsky and Iolanta by Petr I. Tchaikovsky, both in a single evening. The premieres are scheduled for Thursday 22 October and Friday 23 October 2015 at the National Theatre.

International team with Czech soloists bring Norma´s bel canto to Prague

This coming Friday, October 2 and Sunday, October 4, 2015 the production of Bellini's Norma, which connects an international production team and a cast of Czech soloists will premiere State Opera in Prague. The title role will be performed by Marie Fajtová, in the role of Pollione Ales Briscein and Adalgisa by Jana Horakova Levicova. The Italian conductor Enrico Dovico for whom this Norma is a celebration of twenty years of cooperation with the State Opera took over musical preparation. The stage director is a young Japanese director Tomo Sugao, set designer is Slovak native Boris Kudlička, impressive lighting design prepared by German native Wolfgang Göbbel. The State Opera, or rather New German Theatre premiered Norma only once, in German translation in 1899, where the director was Angelo Neumann, the first theatre director of the former New German Theatre.

Forgotten works will open the new opera season in The National Theatre

The Opening Concert 2015/2016 will open with the Festive Overture in C Major by Bedřich Smetana from 1868 written in honour of laying the foundation stone of the National Theatre on 8 September 2015. The National Theatre Orchestra will play this and other rare compositions under the baton of artistic director of the Opera Petr Kofroň.
