The passionate Carmen returns to the stage of the National Theatre in a new production
Georges Bizet’s Carmen is one of the most frequently performed operas in the world.
The National Theatre will present its new production of the piece on 10th and 12th of March.
The story of Don José, a soldier, who succumbs to the lure of the Gypsy temptress Carmen, will
be retold by the German stage director Grischa Asagaroff. Petr Popelka, the recently-appointed
chief conductor of the Prague Radio Symphonic Orchestra, will be charged with preparing the
musical aspects of the premiere. Costume and stage design was entrusted to the Italian artist
Luigi Perego. The leading quartet of characters will feature alternatively Nana Dzidziguri and
Ester Pavlů as Carmen, Luis Gomez and Michal Lehotský as Don José, Łukász Golinski and
Svatopluk Sem as Escamillo and Kateřina Kněžíková, Alžběta Poláčková and Jana Sibera as
Micaela.
