8 pm: Start of the Gala evening, that will be broadcast live by Czech Television and ARTE
The gala concert, bearing the secondary title “The State Opera: Transformations in Time (1888–2018)”, will guide the audience through the illustrious history of its four resident opera companies. The arias, ensembles and overtures selected to be performed at the gala concert symbolise the seminal moments of the State Opera building’s history – world and Czech premieres, exceptional productions, celebrated singers, conductors and stage directors, guest appearances of renowned foreign opera houses – as well as Czech history in general. Under the baton of Karl-Heinz Steffens, the Music Director of the State Opera, the concert will feature distinguished soloists and foreign guests of the National Theatre, and the State Opera Orchestra and Chorus.

On 5 January 2020, the day marking the 132nd anniversary of its first inauguration, the State Opera, one of the most exquisite theatres in Europe, will be reopened following its reconstruction. The gala concert, bearing the secondary title “The State Opera: Transformations in Time (1888–2018)”, will guide the audience through the illustrious history of its four resident opera companies. Practical information
Where to buy tickets
The National Theatre sells tickets up to 6 months in advance. We are currently selling tickets for performances of Drama, Ballet, Opera and Laterna magika taking place in November 2024 – April 2025.
When purchasing online, you can get an e-ticket. You can pick up printed tickets in person at the box offices of the National Theatre.
What to wear?
By their appearance, attire and behaviour, the audience is obliged to adhere to the accustomed practice expected from them when attending a theatre performance.
Parking at the State opera
While visiting the State Opera, you can take the slip road on Wilsonova street from the left lane close to the State Opera building to the Parking Centrum above-ground garage. The parking fee is 60 CZK/h.
