Rameau’s Baroque comédie lyrique Platée to be staged at the State Opera

After 15 years, a Baroque opera has returned to the National Theatre repertoire. Jean-Philippe Rameau‘s comédie lyrique Platée has never been previously presented at the National Theatre or the State Opera. The new production, directed by the SKUTR creative duo (Martin Kukučka and Lukáš Trpišovský), will be conducted by Václav Luks, Artistic Director of Collegium 1704 and Collegium Vocale 1704. It will premiere on 21 November 2024 at the State Opera in Prague.

Zdeněk Fibich’s Maidens’ War opera Šárka returns to Prague’s National Theatre

After more than 45 years, the National Theatre in Prague will perform Zdeněk Fibich’s opera Šárka. The new production, staged by the German director Kay Link, will be conducted by Robert Jindra, Music Director of the National Theatre Opera. The premiere will take place on 7 November 2024.

The Sun, the Moon and the Wind World premiere of an original Czech ballet

The Czech National Ballet invites dance lovers to the world premiere of a Czech fairy tale’s stage adaptation. Inspired by Slavonic mythology and the feted author Božena Němcová’s version, it depicts the story of the masters of the Sun, the Moon and the Wind. The new production has been created by a team of young artists, made up of the choreographer Viktor Konvalinka, the stage director and writer Štěpán Benyovszký, the composer Ivan Acher, the costume designer Bregje van Balen, the scenographer Martin Černý, and Lunchmeat Studio’s Karel Cettl and Erik Bartoš, who have made the animations and illustrations.

Otello, the greatest Italian tragic opera, to be staged at Prague’s State Opera

After almost a decade, Guiseppe Verdi’s tragic masterpiece is returning to the State Opera in Prague. Music lovers can look forward to an overwhelming drama of love, jealousy and scheming, Directed by Martin Čičvák and conducted by Andryi Yurkevych, the new production features a stellar international cast. It will premiere on 26 September, followed by a second performance on 29 September 2024.

Smetana’s The Secret at Prague’s National Theatre – unconventionally conventional

A new production of Bedřich Smetana’s opera The Secret will premiere at Prague’s National Theatre on 24 May 2024. Conducted by Robert Jindra and directed by Ondřej Havelka, the lead role of Kalina will be portrayed by Adam Plachetka and Svatopluk Sem.
